The DIY Calculator

My project

Nothing on the list yet. Work out a quantity with a calculator, then press “Add to project”: the lines add up here, and stay in this browser.

Terms of use

The calculators give estimates for planning a purchase. They do not replace your supplier, your plans, your building department or an engineer.

Estimates, not guarantees

The site works out quantities from the measurements you enter and from published figures such as densities and bag sizes. Real materials vary: a yard of wet soil weighs more than a dry one, and one quarry’s stone is not another’s. Treat every result as an estimate, and check quantities with your supplier before you order.

The site is provided as it is, free of charge, without warranty of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or cost that follows from using a result, including material ordered in excess or in shortage.

Not professional advice

Nothing here is engineering, architectural, legal or safety advice. The calculators size nothing that carries a load. Where a page shows a value from a building code, it is a reference only: it is not an approval, and your local code may differ. For structural work, for permits and for anything that affects safety, rely on your plans, your building department or a licensed professional.

Sources and names

Figures taken from others are credited to them, with a link, on the page that uses them. Product and company names belong to their owners and are used only to say where a figure comes from. We are not affiliated with them.

Using the site

You may use the calculators for personal and commercial projects, link to any page, and share links to your results. Please do not copy the site’s text, drawings or code wholesale, and do not load it with automated requests.

Changes

We may change the calculators, their defaults and these terms. The date at the foot of this page is the day they last changed.
